It appears that the Vatican has officially announced in the doctrinal note "Mater Populi Fidelis" that the titles "Co-Redemptrix" and "Mediatrix" should no longer be used to describe Mary, the mother of Jesus, in official Catholic doctrine and liturgy. The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), with approval by Pope Leo XIV, stated that while devotion to Mary remains encouraged, the titles "Co-Redemptrix" and "Mediatrix" are considered inappropriate because they risk obscuring the unique and exclusive role of Jesus Christ in salvation. The Vatican clarified that while Mary cooperated in God’s plan by being the mother of Jesus, she cannot be described as "Co-Redemptrix" because only Christ is the Redeemer and "there is salvation in no one else" (quoting Acts 4:12) Similarly, the title "Mediatrix" is discouraged because Mary "could not have ...
